One Day Patan Bhaktapur Sightseeing Introduction

Patan Durbar Square and Bhaktapur is a short and sweet hike towards the art city and ancient town of Nepal which allows you to stumble on the devout shrines and treasuries temples.

Both Durbar Square allows you to discover three medieval Kingdoms that are Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur. Both of these cities are ancient royal places that have been listed as UNESCO world heritage sites. Patan and Bhaktapur are traditional Newari towns that are located 12km east of Kathmandu. It is believed that the temples of Bhaktapur Durbar Square were built by King Jitamitra Malla in 1696 A.D. This ancient Royal Palace was once ruled by the great Mallas in the 15th century. One-day tour of this place will allow you to explore the rich art, culture, tradition, norms, and values of the ancient history of Nepal.

You will have a chance to explore prehistoric temples, museums, traditionally built Newari homes, wooden and stone architecture, old places, shops of ancient accessories and jewelers, and many more. Despite this modernization era, these places have still not been affected by it. We can still witness people living in their traditional habitats with cobbled streets free of traffic jams. This place has lots of things to offer.

You can witness craftsmen building their traditional and centuries-old arts of potters, wooden carvings, metal, and stone carvings. Every year thousands of tourists visit these places to explore and experience the city of divine lives. You will notice a lot of Pagodas, taps, ponds, and Buddhist cloisters. When you tour this area during the festive season and if you are lucky enough, you will be blessed to have a look at Kumari (Living Goddess of Nepal).
We will start our tour from Bhaktapur and move forward to Lalitpur.

We will begin our journey today from Bhaktapur which is 16.1km away from Kathmandu. Normally, we will reach Bhaktapur within 30-35mintues, but due to heavy traffic, it might take about an hour and a half. When we reach Bhaktapur you will have time to explore the city and take pictures. It is the 3rd largest city in Nepal popular for its rich ancient art, culture, and tradition.

You will explore the famous Museums where you will learn about the late King and Queens who ruled over this palace long ago. This place is also widely famous for its 55-window palace. The doors and windows of these palaces are carved by skillful men. We can see various handmade paintings and souvenirs which you can buy as a part of your memory.

Another famous place to visit in Bhaktapur is the five-stored Nyatapol Temple which is the largest pagoda-styled temple in Nepal. The doors and windows of the temples are carved with different images of God, Goddess, and animals like Lions, Snakes, Elephants, giraffes, and many more. We will roam and tour to this place for 2 and a half hours.

01:00 hrs: Have Lunch at Bhaktapur Durbar Square

We will visit some local Newari restaurants and cafes around the Bhaktapur area to taste some authentic Newari dishes. People will welcome you with warm hospitality with proper taste and hygiene in food. We will have a taste of Aila (Traditionally handmade local Newari alcohol). After having lunch we will rest for a time having refreshments.

We will spend 1-hour having lunch in Bhaktapur.

02:00 hrs: Drive to Patan Durbar Square, Explore

Patan Durbar Square (Lalitpur) is 12.3km away from Bhaktapur.

We will drive towards Patan which will take about an hour to reach there. Upon our reach, we will again start to explore this amazing city. This Durbar Square is one of the cultural heritage sites listed on UNESCO. This place is also widely known as “Lalitpur” which means the city of beauty. This city is mixed with the settlement of people from the Buddhist community and Newari community so you will have time to exploit the rich mix of tradition and culture of this place. We will walk throw narrow streets where there are more than 600 stupas.

One of the famous temples around here is the Krishna Temple which is still in use and in good condition. It is made up of three floors with 21 golden pinnacles. The first floor of this temple is of Lord Krishna, the Second of Lord Shiva, and the Third of Lord Lokheshowr.
