Australian Base Camp Trek Introduction

Though small, Nepal can fulfill travelers’ desires. From ascending the Himalayas to watching birds and wildlife on plains, from adventure sports to pilgrimage tours.

Pokhara is a popular tourist destination in Nepal where most of the trekking routes start. Likewise one of the famous, easy, and short trekking routes located in Pokhara is the Australian Base Camp Trek.

Australian Base is located at Pokhara, Dhampus. It is a beautiful place surrounded by the hills and mountains of Annapurna. Dhampus Australian base camp is a short route trek and can also be done within 2 nights and 3 days.
It is pinpointed at a beautiful hilltop in the North-West of Pokhara city. You will get exposure to the view of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Himchuli, Machhapurchhre, Annapurna IV, Annapurna III, Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal, and Manaslu range, etc.

Get a fantastic view of sunrise and sunsets, beautiful green hills, snow-capped mountains, terraces of rice, and the beautiful valley of Pokhara. Australian camp was discovered by the people of Austria, who used to come down to this place typically named “Thulo khakra”. They used to camp in this place for several days and liked how this place was quite peaceful and surrounded by mesmerizing mountains and hills.

Dhampus village is located on the Annapurna trekking trail which is very much attractive. For those tourists who want to explore Nepal and its culture and Traditions within a short period, this is the perfect place for them.

Outline Itinerary

  • Day1: Arrive in Kathmandu
  • Day 2: Fly to Pokhara (45minutes)
  • Day 3: Drive from Pokhara to Phedi, trek to Dhampus (1650m) (3 hours) and Australian Base Camp
  • Day 4: Australian Base Camp to Sarangkot (5hours)
  • Day 5: Sarangkot to Pokhara (4hours)
  • Day 6: Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu (45mins)

Detailed Itinerary

Day1: Arrive in Kathmandu

Our guide will receive you from the international airport.

From there, he will guide you and accommodate you in a nice 3-star hotel. If you wish you can sightsee around Kathmandu city and explore the city or you can prepare yourself by buying all the necessary items needed for the trek. You can have your breakfast or brunch at some famous cafes around the city and try authentic Nepali cuisine as a dinner at night.
Stay overnight in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Fly to Pokhara (45minutes)

After having an early morning breakfast in the hotel, we will fly from Kathmandu To Pokhara.

You can enjoy Majestic views of hills and mountains on your way. After we reach Pokhara our guide will guide you towards the main attraction areas of Pokhara. Either you can explore the valley or boat in Phewa Lake. At night you can enjoy going to famous bars and pubs which are popular among tourists.

Day 3: Drive from Pokhara to Phedi, trek to Dhampus (1650m) (3 hours) and Australian Base Camp

After having breakfast we will take a jeep to drive to Phedi which will take around half an hour. After reaching Phedi we will Trek to the beautiful village Dhampus which will take good walk-through forests of rhododendrons and steep climb up with stone staircases for 1 hour.

After reaching Phedi we will have some snacks and we will again ascend towards beautiful forests, terrace fields, and small houses. We will keep walking up to the ridge for 1 hour until we reach the hotel. We will get a fantastic view of Mountains like Annapurna and Machhapuchhre also known as Fishtail.

After reaching the hotel we will have our lunch with a view of the Mountain. Until we reach Pothana we will keep ascending forwards through Forests of oak and rhododendrons. After 1 and a half-hour of walk-through stone stairways, we will reach Australian Base Camp. We will be blessed with the view of sunsets over the Himalayan ranges.

Day 4: Australian Base Camp to Sarangkot (5hours)

We will have an early morning breakfast along with the stunning view of sunsets through the Himalayas.
We will leave this place and march towards Sarankot. After walking for 5hours through the forest and slightly descending trail Naudaada also known as Nine Hills we will reach Sarangkot.

Trekking to Sarangkot will give you a magnificent view of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Machhapuchre, Nilgiri, Lamjung hima, etc.) and an enchanting view of Pokhara valley and Pokhara lake.

During the nighttime, you can see beautiful lights and lightning from Pokhara Valley. We will stay a night here.

Day 5: Sarangkot to Pokhara (4hours)

We will have our early morning breakfast in Sarangkot and will leave this place behind.

Today we will hike through picturesque hill villages. We will get views of a spectacular panoramic view of Sarankot Valley as we hike for 4 hours to reach Pokhara. After arrival at Pokhara, you will be accommodated in a nice hotel where you can have a day off and take a rest.

Day 6: Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu (45mins)

We will have our morning breakfast and catch a flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Our guide will help you with your flights and luggage and help you return safely back to Kathmandu. You will be bid farewell by a complimentary dinner or lunch in Kathmandu.
