Nar Phu Valley Trek Introduction
Nar Phu Valley trekking trail is not as popular and crowded as other trekking destinations in Nepal.
Nar Phu valley is an unexplored and untouched beauty of Nepal. Nar Phu is located in the remote region of the Manang district. This valley was the forbidden kingdom of Tibet and was later found by Nepal. It is a popular yet unspoiled trekking route of the Annapurna Circuit trail. Every tourist and trekker needs a special permit to enter and pass by this area. Nar and Phu are different villages.
The trek begins from Dharapani and ends at Jagat. You will get to cross over various suspension bridges over many river streams. You will visit Tashi Lakhang Monastery, which was said to be the last monastery built by Karmapa Rinpoche. It is a classic trek that offers you mesmerizing views of Mt Annapurna, Mt. Pisang, Mt Tilicho, and many more. The tour highlights are passing through pine and rhododendron forests, hiking to the viewpoints, visiting the monasteries, etc.
The best time for this trial is September to November (autumn) and March to May (spring). The highest elevation during the Nar Phu valley trek is 5320m (17454ft).
People in this area mainly belong to the Buddhist community and are influenced by Tibetan culture. You will find lots of ancient monasteries in this region. Detailed Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
After you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative will be waiting for you at the airport gate. He will drive you to the hotel where you can rest. You can sightsee the nearby places in the valley after freshening up. In the evening, we will be organizing a welcome dinner for you and discussing the trekking routes.
Overnight stay in the hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 02: Drive to Jagat (1330m)
Trip Duration: 8 to 9 hrs
Early in the morning, we will pick you up from the hotel and drive to the bus park. From here, we will go to Jagat in a private jeep. It will take us around 8 to 9 hours to reach Jagat. On the way, you will spot the peaks of Mt Manaslu and Lamjung Himal.
Overnight stay in a lodge in Jagat.
Day 03: Trek from Jagat to Dharapani (1860m)
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hrs
After a warm breakfast, we will commence our trekking journey. We will gradually climb to Chamje and cross the suspension bridge.
We will continue along the steep rocky path to the Tal village. Passing by Tal village, you can see beautiful waterfalls. This village will take you around 2 hours to reach Dharapani by crossing one more suspension bridge. Overnight stay in a lodge in Dharapani.
Day 04: Trek from Dharapani to Koto (2600m)
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hrs
After having breakfast, we will continue our trail and hike to Bagarchhap, passing through pine forests. You will see an ancient monastery here. We will continue the walk to Danaque. From here, we will ascend to Timang, which is a steep path.
With the view of mountain peaks, we will pass through pine forests until we reach Latamarang. We will continue the trail for one and a half hours and reach Koto village. Overnight stay in a lodge in Koto.
Day 05: Trek to Meta (3570m)
Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hrs
Continuing the journey, we will head towards Meta. Firstly we will be registering in the check post to enter the restricted area of Nar Phu valley and continue the trail. We will hike through the riverbank of Soti Khola, passing through pine forests.
After crossing a suspension bridge, we will reach Dharmasala. Here you will see a waterfall and have lunch in this area. Continuing the steps, we will ascend steeply to Meta village (Tibetan Plateau). Overnight stay in a lodge in Meta.
Day 06: Trek to Kyang (3840m)
Trek Duration: 3 to 4 hrs
Continuing the trail, we will head towards Kyang. We will start the course with suspension bridges over various streams.
The paths have many ups and downs today. It is quite a short trek to reach Kyang. You will rarely find houses in this area, but a lodge has been built here recently. The Khampa refugees from Tibet used to stay here illegally quite long ago. Overnight stay in the club in Kyang.
Day 07: Trek to Phu (3900m)
Trek Duration: 3 to 4 hrs
Today we have a short trek to cover. After finishing breakfast, we will pass the Phu Khola by a rocky path for 3 hours. During this time, you might spot the blue sheep. Walking in this hidden valley, you will be exploring the unique cultures and traditions of the locals. You will mainly find people of Ghale, Lama, and Gurung in this valley.
You will get to visit one of the oldest Buddhist Monastery – Tashi Lakhang Monastery, built by Karmapa Rinpoche. This monastery is listed in the 108 great Buddhist monasteries of the world. The view of mountains with snow makes the time even more mesmerizing. Overnight stay in a lodge in Phu
Day 08: Trek to Nar (4100m)
Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hrs
After having breakfast, we will descend, bypassing various suspension bridges and streams until we reach Mahendra Pul. It will take us 4 hours to get Mahendra Pul from Phu. We will pass the suspension bridge (80m) over the George of Lapche river. Ascending through the steep paths, you will reach Nar.

Day 9: Trek to Ngawal (3660m) via Kang La Pass (5320m)
Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hrs
We will continue the trial early in the morning. Today we are exiting the restricted area of Nar-Phu valley. Then we will head to Jhombu Kharka (aka Kang La Phedi). From here, you can see many yaks around the yak herder’s camp. We will ascend from here; the path is too steep until we reach Kang La pass. Walking for two and a half hours, we will reach Kang La Pass. From here, you will get a spectacular view of the Annapurna Range and many other peaks.
After enjoying the view, we will descend to the Ngawal village, which is 3 hours of walk. Overnight stay in a lodge in Ngawal village.
Day 10: Trek from Ngawal to Manang (3540m)
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hrs
Continuing the trail, we will descend to Braga village and visit the monastery here. From here, we will head towards Manang. On the way, you will be mesmerized by the view of the Annapurna Range. We will also be hiking to the Chunker viewpoint, which gives you the idea of Gangapurna Lake, Chulo peak, Mt Pisang, Mt. Tilicho, and the Annapurna range.
After enjoying the view, we will return to the lodge in Manang. We will also visit Cave Gompa (4500m). Overnight stay in a club in Manang.
Day 11: Trek to Pisang (2675m)
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hrs
We will enjoy breakfast with beautiful mountain views and head to Braga. We will then head to Humde village for 3 hours. From here, we will walk towards the Pisang village. Here we will visit the Buddhist monastery with various mountain views.
Overnight stay in a lodge in Pisang.
Day 12: Trek from Pisang to Chame (2670m)
Trek Duration: 6 hrs
Today we will be heading to Chame, which is 6 hours from Pisang village. Passing through the rhododendron and pine forest, we will reach Bratang, where we will have our lunch. After a quick lunch break, we will continue the walk through the pine forest and reach Chame village, the headquarter of the Manang district. Overnight stay in a lodge in Manang.
Day 13: Trek to Dharapani (1860m)
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hrs
Continuing the journey, we will walk towards Koto and pass through the forest up to the Marsyangdi River. We will reach Thanchok and continue to move downhill for 3 hours, and reach Danakyu. We will have lunch here and trail to Bagarchhap, which is an hour away.
From here, we will head towards Dharapani taking our permits. Overnight stay in a lodge in Dharapani.
Day 14: Trek to Jagat (1330m)
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hrs.
Today is the last day of the trek. We will have breakfast and continue the trial. Crossing the suspension bridge, we will reach the side of the Marsyangdi River and walk down towards Karte. Similarly, we will be crossing two more suspension bridges over the Marshyangdi river.
Walking towards the Tal village, you will find the path quite rocky. From here, the trail gets narrower, and we will cross the suspension bridge to reach the Chyamje village. From here we will walk for an hour and reach Jagat village. Overnight stay in a lodge in Jagat.
Day 15: Drive back to Kathmandu via Besisahar
Trip Duration: 8 to 9 hrs
We will descend to Kathmandu early in the morning. A private jeep will pick us up from Jagat and drive to Besisahar for 3 hours and five more hours from Besisahar to Kathmandu. The route passes along the Trishuli and Marsyangd rivers. After we reach Kathmandu, we will transfer you to the hotel. After you take a little bit of a nap our MD will come to pick you up for farewell dinner & discuss how your trip went & etc.

Day 16: Departure
Our representative will drop you at the Tribhuvan International Airport as per your scheduled flight time. If you have further plans for treks or holiday expansion in Nepal, feel free to contact us. We are always at your service.
