Upper Mustang Trek Introduction

Upper Mustang was a restricted area until 1992 making it one of the most preserved regions in the world. Trek in this area is all about exploring and experiencing the hidden world of the ancient Buddhist Kingdom of Mustang also known as “Lo”.

Get to know about the hidden Buddhist world and exploit its rich mix of culture and tradition between Tibet and Nepalese. Get warm hospitality from both cultures and lodge in a very pure form of traditionally built Tibetan-style villages. As Upper Mustang was a forbidden area, trekkers in the past used to live by camping. But now a few small hotels are built where you can stay overnight comfortably.

You can reach Upper Mustang through both roadways and airways. But the easiest way to get there will be by flying from Pokhara to Jomsom. Roads are a bit menacing as landslides quite often happen in the way. You will definitely experience a thrilling adventure being there as you spend your day sightseeing in the most beautiful desert with harsh cliff-faced landscapes, and rocks with unusual shapes, structures, and colors.

Villages there are made up of white colors and roofs filled with black firewood. You will be welcomed with a warm reception by the Buddhist and Tibetan humankind. The Tibetan family will offer to sit with them in the kitchen as the kitchen is the center of the house in Tibet culture. You can try authentic local dishes like Thakali khana, yak meat, sukuti, firewood foods, churpi, Apple wine, and many more.

Get the panorama of beautiful caves, landscapes, paintings on the rocks, Monasteries, and gumbos. You can also get the majestic view of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and others during your trek which makes it more fun and interesting.

This trek can be wiped off for 14-15 days. Don’t miss this chance as a trek in this region allows you to explore the geography of Tibet where you can meet the lifestyle of true mountain peoples. Explore the wealthy cultural heritages inside this region. Upper Mustang Trek is unique in its form.
